Our Philosophy & Curriculum

First Presbyterian Church Nursery School (FPCNS) is a preschool learning center founded in 1975.  Because a child learns through their play in their preschool years, the program at FPCNS is play-oriented.

Our curriculum includes: thematic units using children’s literature, hands-on science experiments, music/movement, dramatic play, creative art activities, exploring art with different media, small motor manipulatives, large building blocks, indoor/outdoor play areas, cooking fun, letter of the week, pre-math manipulatives.

Play is a child’s “work”!

Play provides an opportunity for hands-on learning and discovery through the use of a wide variety of materials. The activities for three, four, and five year olds are selected and organized by qualified and dedicated teachers who have knowledge of the needs and interests of young children. Our curriculum involves the following elements to help children learn through play!

What Makes Us Special!

Home Visits: Teachers will visit just before school starts either at home or someplace in Findlay! This visit will provide a chance to get acquainted before the first day of school. A picture will be taken and posted during the open house for parents and children.

Parent/Teacher Conferences: Twice a year parents meet with teachers to talk about how well a child is doing in the classroom with other students and with the skills being taught.

Field Trips/Special Speakers: During the school year, there will be field trips to places like Riverbend Park, the Log Cabin, and the Equestrian Farm.  People from Oakwoods Nature Preserve and the Humane Society come to visit during the year as well as other professionals.

Mom and me/Dad’s Day: In the Fall, Moms come to school and join in the fun and Dads come in the Spring!

Indoor/Outdoor Play: While at school, children play every day in the Large Muscle Room or outside on the playground.

Pre-session Childcare: Childcare is available with a teacher before class starts for parents who need an early drop-off time.

Curbside Drop-off and Pick-up: There is a circular drive for parents to use before and after class. Teachers escort children to and from the car.
